Explore the Impact featuring Islands Folk Festival/Cowichan Folk Guild

The Cowichan Folk Guild believes early-career artists are every bit as compelling as established performers, and they aimed to reflect that belief in how and where they appeared throughout their 2025 Islands Folk Festival. Rather than positioning early-career artists on the margins, they placed them alongside established artists, in high-traffic venues, and at key moments in the schedule where audiences were fully engaged. Here are a few of the highlights:

Becky Prokova
❝ Playing at the Islands Folk Fest this summer was such an unforgettable experience. I was blown away by how cared for and supported I felt the entire weekend. I was guided wherever I needed to be, and it all ran with such ease that I could simply relax and focus on the music. What really stood out was how valued I felt as an artist, not just like a local performer, but genuinely celebrated. It’s such a rare and beautiful thing to feel that level of appreciation and professionalism at a festival.

Malakai
Malakai and Infinite Atom’s joint All-Stars performance was spectacular, blending energy, risk-taking, and deep connection that captivated the audience and gained many new fans.

The Islands Folk Festival this year was incredible! I had an amazing time playing and seeing other artists. All the volunteers were friendly and helpful, and everything ran so smoothly.

PINDN
PINDN more than lived up to the anticipation surrounding his performances and exceeded expectations across his appearances.

Hiring Indigenous artists remains a priority for us, and we were proud to include two Indigenous artists, in addition to those hired through other Festival initiatives. ~ Festival Organizers
