SUMMARY:Board Diversity & Inclusion: Decolonizing Practices and Navigating Power
DESCRIPTION:This virtual workshop led by Vantage Point is aimed at BC Live Member and their Board Members. \nGretchen Ferguson – Vantage Point Staff Facilitator \n \nGretchen Ferguson is Vantage Point’s Director of Education and Consulting. She is a dynamic\nleader with over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit and higher education sectors in\nCanada and internationally. She specializes in program and curriculum development\,\nstrategic planning\, and impact evaluation\, with a strong focus on fostering diversity\, equity\,\nand inclusion (DEI) to drive systemic change. She has led impactful initiatives\, including the\ndevelopment of a DEI assessment tool for Canadian financial institutions and an innovative\ntraining program to foster community-led economic development in Bolivia.\nKnown for her strategic vision and collaborative leadership\, Gretchen is deeply committed to\ncreating inclusive environments that empower teams and communities. \nJ. Kevin Barlow – Vantage Point Associate Facilitator \n \nJ. Kevin Barlow is a seasoned senior executive with more than 21 years of CEO and Executive\nDirector leadership in the Indigenous non-profit sector. A Mi’kmaw leader with national and\ninternational experience\, he has spent over three decades forming\, growing\, and strengthening\norganizations that serve Inuit\, Métis\, and First Nations communities. Kevin founded the\nCanadian Aboriginal AIDS Network and later served as CEO of the Metro Vancouver Aboriginal\nExecutive Council\, where he expanded the organization from a half-time position to an 18-\nperson team and established the Metro Vancouver Indigenous Services Society with a $1.1M\nannual budget. His leadership is marked by deep expertise in Indigenous governance\,\nreconciliation\, culturally grounded service delivery\, and strategic organizational development. \nLearning Outcomes \nBy the end of this workshop participants will be able to: \n• Expand your understanding of colonization\, systemic racism\, and White privilege. \n• Assess power dynamics in your boardroom. \n• Evaluate your decolonizing practices and prepare a plan of action.
